A brief history of Reading Fishing Club:

The Reading Fishing Club was formed in 1880. In those days many of their competitions involved a train journey to Thames venues such as Goring on Thames and Henley on Thames, where all catches were killed and weighed, and consisted of mainly roach.

This policy changed after the 1st World War, and in 1923 the Reading Fishing Club was one of six Clubs that formed the Reading and District Angling Association securing fishing on the River Kennet, which up to that time was rather exclusive.

The Club has had many famous members, the greatest probably being the Great Thames Angler, A E Hobbs, many of whose catches can be viewed at the Henley Rowing Club headquarters.

The Reading Fishing Club Headquarters have moved many times over the years and meetings are currently held at the Westwood Club, Tilehurst on the first Tuesday of the month, where all members are welcome.

We are also probably the only Club in Reading to still hold an annual Dinner and Prize giving, held since 1880 with the exception of the war years and welcoming all member and their family.
